Bharat Bangladesh Pakistan Peace Foundation delegation meets Vohra
Srinagar Sep 18 (Only Kashmir): A 14-member delegation of the Bharat Bangladesh Pakistan Peace Foundation met the Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, at Raj Bhavan here today and apprised him about the initiatives being taken by the Foundation for the promotion of people-to-people interactions and cultural exchanges for forging better understanding and spreading the message of peace across the region.
The delegation led by Dr. Sunilam, National Secretary of the Foundation, briefed the Governor about the objectives of their present visit to the State, particularly to the Kashmir Valley. He also informed the Governor about other visits already undertaken to the various parts of the country and the activities of the Foundation at large. The delegation also informed about the earlier planned Peace Conference which was being organized by the Foundation at Srinagar, but had to be postponed on account of the disturbed conditions in the Valley.
In the over one hour discussions with the Governor, the activists of the Foundation projected a number of suggestions, also contained in the Memorandum submitted to the Governor, for urgently restoring peace and normalcy in the State and laid special stress on the need for restoring and strengthening the pluralistic traditions of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Governor, while interacting with the delegation, observed that, in the immediate context, there is a most urgent need for the restoration of normalcy as only thereafter the other proposed initiatives could be moved forward, in a conducive atmosphere, to achieve the cherished goal of peace, progress and prosperity in the State. He said that the youth of the State are highly talented and, given the required opportunity, they can compete most successfully with their counterparts anywhere else in the country. In this connection, he referred to Dr. Shah Faisal of Kupwara area, who had secured the topmost rank in the last year’s All India Civil Services Examination. Referring to the obtaining situation in the Valley, he said that this had already resulted in enormous loss of human life and property, besides a most irreparable disruption in the academic schedules which had adversely affected the academic careers of the younger generation.
