GILANI ASKS INDIA TO ACCEPT KASHMIR AS A DISPUTED

Srinagar, August 31 (Only Kashmir): Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has declared that the ongoing mass protests in occupied Kashmir will be intensified if India failed to begin the process of complete demilitarisation of the territory.
Syed Ali Gilani addressing a press conference in Srinagar, today, said that the demilitarisation process should be monitored by a credible agency.
The minimum possible conditions put forth by the veteran leader for creating an atmosphere for resolution of Kashmir dispute included India’s recognition of Jammu and Kashmir as international dispute, immediate and unconditional release of all illegally detained Kashmiri leaders and youth, withdrawal of fabricated cases and initiation of a process to punish perpetrators of state violence. Syed Ali Gilani maintained that the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination had been acknowledged not only by the United Nations but India as well.
On the other hand, the authorities re-imposed curfew in Srinagar, Islamabad and Pulwama and restrictions in other cities and towns, today, to prevent people from holding protest demonstrations against the killing of an 11-year-old boy in Islamabad town. The boy was martyred and several other people were injured in indiscriminate firing of Indian police, last evening.
Despite curfew, hundreds of people took to streets in Srinagar and Islamabad and staged anti-India demonstrations. Indian police and troops resorted to teargas shelling in Islamabad to quell the protesters, injuring three more people.
An Indian trooper was killed while another injured during a clash between the troops and Mujahideen in Atwatoo area of Bandipore district. A Special Police Officer of Indian police was killed by Mujahideen in an attack in Kursa area of Kishtwar district.
In Islamabad, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar and Ghulam Muhammad Safi, the Convenors of the AJK chapters of APHC and the forum patronised by Syed Ali Gilani deplored in a joint statement the indifference of the international community towards the death and destruction by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir.
